Nele M. is a second-semester student of industrial engineering at the University of Rostock and wanted to gain insights into the working world before the mandatory internship at the end of her studies. She got this opportunity through an internship in project management at ROFA INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION AG.
„Practical experience despite theoretical studies“
The desire to study a technical degree had been with me for a long time before graduating from high school. This was strengthened by an assembly job at the BMW plant in Leipzig in the summer of 2022. Now I am in my second semester of industrial engineering studies at the University of Rostock.
It is no secret that studying at a university is very theoretical and lacks practical experience. That’s why it was important for me to gain insights into the working world before my mandatory internship. And as a student intern in project management at ROFA AG in March 2023, I was able to gain valuable experience for two weeks.
„Insights into project management and the working world“
Upon my arrival, I was warmly welcomed and quickly familiarized with Scania’s ongoing project in China. After a brief introduction to the project, I was already in the first English project meeting, which can be a bit challenging at first, but you get used to it. As part of the team, I participated in many meetings and was allowed to take on tasks independently.
The results were often even passed on to the customer, which made me feel integrated and helpful. In addition, I was also able to learn quite a bit about pneumatics and design software.
„A site visit provides the opportunity to learn about practical implementation“
In addition to the activities in the office, a visit to the construction site at the Audi plant in Ingolstadt was also on the agenda. There, I participated in a meeting regarding a new construction project, which gave me valuable insights into the practical realization of project management.
Overall, I was able to gain a good and realistic understanding of the daily routine of project management at ROFA AG in the two weeks.
I am looking forward to meeting the team again.
